Rospen’s CompEx Inspections service provides specialist hazardous-area inspections, testing and certification support for electrical and control equipment installed in potentially explosive gas and dust atmospheres.
 

Service Overview

Rospen carries out CompEx inspections as part of its hazardous area services for powder handling and process plants where ATEX zoning and DSEAR regulations apply. Our engineers are CompEx certified and qualified to inspect, test and install equipment in zoned environments to confirm that it is safe and compliant. Inspections typically cover control panels, field devices and associated wiring in areas classified for explosive dusts and gases.

 

What CompEx Inspections Cover

During a CompEx inspection, Rospen engineers check that all installed equipment matches the hazardous-area classification (zone, gas or dust group, temperature class) and is correctly certified for the specific environment. They verify installation quality, enclosure integrity, cable terminations and gland selections, earthing and bonding, and the condition of seals and entries in line with relevant ATEX and DSEAR requirements. Where issues are identified, Rospen can advise on corrective actions and support remedial works to bring systems back into compliance.

 

Connection with ATEX Process Equipment

A high proportion of Rospen systems, including powder-handling lines and equipment that meet the requirements for Zone 20, 21, and 22 dust environments, are configured to operate in explosive environments. This is supplemented by CompEx inspections to ensure that the related electrical and control installations, such as ATEX-certified control panels, are installed and maintained in compliance with the ATEX directive and site zoning drawings. This integrated practise will ensure that the mechanical and electrical sides of the plant comply with the required safety and certification standards.

 

Adherence and Paperwork

Inspections of electrical installations in hazardous areas are carried out in accordance with the DSEAR and other international and UK standards for electrical installations in explosive atmospheres. Upon inspection, the site operators can be assisted by Rospen to obtain documentation and records to prove compliance to support the site operations, insurances and continued safety management. Such records may be combined with broader maintenance regimes to provide periodic rechecks where needed.
